anybody here with a 05 touring model have had any problems with there valve seals i have a 05 rkcustom and i pulled my plugs out and they seem fine i ran into a friend of mine at the dealer he has a 05 softtail deluxe and he told me about it said one of his plugs was ready to foul out anyway it should be under warranty and the dealer fixed it for nothing, zero, nada.
Had my bike in to the dealer for the 25 K service. Asked them to check cam chain tensioners. They replaced them under warranty. Service manager asked if I was having to add oil - told him not adding any brtween changes, but down on dip-stick. They pulled thew heads and found bad valve seals - also replaced under warranty at no charge.
'05 EG Standard. My dealer just finished the job. Picking it up this afternoon. I reported excessive oil consumption at the 5000 mi. service and they confirmed. It is a warranty repair, but since I purchased the extended service plan, it'll cost me $50.00. I'm not complaining but purchase of the plan superceded the remaining factory warranty that was on the bike when I bought it. Go figure.
joe v, Only the early '05 models had valve seal issues. They will be replaced with a quick call to h-d tech service. All the new "good" valve seals are orange in color. If you are unsure you WILL use oil and have accumulation on the plugs.
I just had an engine upgrade done and when the tech pulled the heads the rear piston was a little wet and had quite a bit of carbon on it. It didn't use anymore than a small dixie cup between 3,000 mi oil changes and in 47K it never fouled a plug. March 05 build date on bike.
I have an 05 Ultra. It was using 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. Kept records of mileage and when oil was added. Brought all that to dealer. They did a leak down test and changed valve seals and piston rings all was covered under warranty. Have talked to several people with early 05 twin cams and all had the same problem and was corrected by dealers at no charge.
