You think your radio is outdated. You should take a look at Yamaha's Venture. The 2011 model still has a cassette player. So dust off your old mixed tapes and rock on!
Ran into the same issue. Tried to burn the disk with windows cd burning utility on my laptop and got the same results as you did. So I did it again thinking maybe got a bad sector or something like that and still same results. so then I went to my main computer and burned one using Nero and Viola worked like a champ. Does it have anything to do with the way windows finalizes a disk vs. nero? Dunno. But I agree with the Chaulk another one up to bill Gates Comment.
What he said!
Do not use the Microsoft Windows program to burn the CD. IT sucks bigtime.
Download a trial of nero and use that.
Trust me you can burn 10 CD's using windows and when you put it in your radio to install/update it will do just what you said happenned...sit there and do nothing.
I went through the same thing JRBass did...Then my kid burned it for me with Nero and it worked right away....I dont know diddly-skwatt about a computer but I know that F***ing windows cd program/ burner had me pulling my goddamn hair out (the little bit I got left) and as soon as we used the Nero it went right in and worked like a charm.
Well almost. The cassette player is still there but Yamaha now gives you a "Star branded iPod Touch" that connects with the audio system. Uncle Bob was affraid he had to trow his Carpenters and John Denver tapes away. At least iPod integration is stock on the Venture.
Like others have said, burn at a slower speed with any software but the windows embedded software. It does not work. I updated mine about 3 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. It took care of an issue with the radio losing time. And also took care of an issue I had with shutting the bike off and turning it back on and the radio would not remain in the same mode, it would revert back to WB, even if it was on CD or AUX when shut off. It was really very easy to do if you just follow the instructions. It is also supposed to address an issue with the VOX on the intercom, I don't use the intercom so I can't say if that got fixed or not.
I used a Mac and Roxio Toast Titanium. The instructions state to use ISO 9660. A couple of copies without the ISO 9660 did not work. Once I switched to the ISO 9660 format all went well.
