I went with the Boom HD system, speakers first and amp later, both pretty easy to do, and pretty satisfied with sound as well.

Nothings easy, but this has got to be the best sounding amp I've found! I'm glad I waited, these just came out in July.

I have 6 1/2" Kickers with the HogTunes tweeter bar, & an Iron Cross Audio Modded H-K Radio and a Rockford Fosgate PBR300X Boosted Rail 4 channel Amp!

I cannot hear the exhaust at 80 MPH and that's only 2 channels!

What's really cool is when you roll up to a car with the windows down & they're just staring at the radio & fairing saying to themselves, "that friggin thing sounds better than my car stereo"!

Hogtunes and J&M are plug and play. The others are not.

It is important to understand that the power supply wire will have to be run, to the battery. In no way would you want to attempt to use the factory wires to power an amp.
Hawg Wired has a 60W x 2 amp that is P&P and apparently requires no power cable to the battery. Like you I wonder about this strategy, however. It's the only true P&P amp that I know of, but since it's a 2-ch. amp I doubt if that would fit the OP's needs.

The hardest part - the tank will have to come off, not hard, power wire will run nicely through the wire duct and shrink tubes already there. Speaker wiring is strait forward.
I didn't remove my tank but just unbolted and pulled it up, ran the wire by first inserting a straightened coat-hanger wire under the tank, taping the power wire to it, and pulling it through. I then made sure it wasn't pinched after the tank was returned to its normal position. I have the old-style 5-gal. tank with the cross-over hose which makes it a PITA to remove compared to newer 6-gal. tanks. If I had one of those I would remove it as you suggest. Like you said it's important to place the 30A fuse near the battery connection.

These generic auto mini-amps are not hard to install but doing so is more than a one-beer job. I think the OP wants a quick, simple install--but I doubt if he's going to be happy with his options.

FWIW, I used Velcro between the head unit and amp, then secured it further with two 14" heavy-duty wire ties connected together around the front section of both boxes. It's very secure with this configuration.

The BOOM amp is supposed to be plug and play, but dealer did tell me I'd have to bring in my bike for them to basically "flash" the radio, at the time I thought that may have been only if I wanted to add another set of speakers into my lowers, but with what "iclick" said about dealer install, now I'm not sure. I was thinking of going with the BOOM amp myself since I have speakers already.

I guess P&P doesn't have a universal definition, but I would think running the power wire under the tank and connecting it to the battery, as well as connecting a separate ground wire, would disqualify a kit for being labelled "P&P." That's just my take on it, but I will agree that it isn't complex and most riders shouldn't have trouble with that task. Both HT and J&M require the independent power and ground cable, and AFAIK only the lower-powered Hawg-Wired amps plug right into the head unit's connectors. Again, those mentioned from HW are 2-ch. kits and I would imagine the OP is looking for a 4-ch. kit to drive four speakers in his Ultra.

I notice that "dealer installation required" warning is on the 4-ch. Boom kit for the Ultra (#76000051), not the 2-ch. kits I looked at. I'm not sure why, but it may be because of the "flash" requirement your dealer mentioned. The site didn't have the install manual available for viewing so it's hard to say what's involved.

This unit is 4 ohm (a No No No) for HD (?) ?

I was actually looking at the elf for the exact same bike, same pipes, a guy has a few for $120 on fleabay. I asked the question regarding how to maintain

Ans...Since this amp is a 2 Channel Amp. You can connect the front speakers to one channel an the rear speakers to second channel. This way you can control front and back separately. If your headunit has RCA out then you need to buy RCA splitters, I may have a couple around her I will send to you.
