Well, by rights she shouldn't be wearing flip flops or sandles. Her foot slips off just going around a corner and it'll look like ground-chuck at the butcher counter.

On another note, I rode a buddy's 04 (carbureted) E/Glide Std.
No excessive heat. Nice ride too. 203's like mine. Scrmn/eagle pipes though.
Kinda tinny sounding. He's gonna change em.
I've ridden a few new ones. Too f'in hot !!!

Its boots and jeans now and she hates it which means he hates it. They ride probably half as much as last summer and he wishes he'd kept the 09, problems and all. Based on their un-biased opinion the heat must be significantly greater.

I have an 11 RKC. Replaced the head pipe with Fullsack, put on V&H monstor ovals and put on a different air cleaner. Talked to the teck and did a supertuner. EXPENSIVE but boy am I happy. Before I could feel tons of heat on the right side and that was in the cool spring weather. Now there is none. Sound is perfect, not too loud as to **** off the neighbors but a neat deep rumble. The big power difference is in low end torque. No need to shift down, just crank the throttle and the beast awakens. I average about 45 mpg in the highway most of the time, maybe a bit less at 75 mph.

Negligible difference in heat?!?!?

I guess the best way to look at this headpipe dillema is heat is apparently as subjective as sound.

While I want to say that I am not wrong, and the multitudes of people that have said the bikes are too hot are not wrong either, I guess we have to say there are almost as many people that say the heat is not unbearable.

I wonder how many of us that say the bikes are too hot are metric converts?

The only thing I have to relate my opinion to is my Boulevard.

AND THIS HARLEY IS (NO WAS) HOTTER THAN MY BOULEVARD, AND IN MY OPINION HOTTER THAN IT SHOULD BE.

Had I taken more of a test ride than 15 minutes, I might have changed my mind, and not bought the bike. Dont get me wrong, I love it. But would have had second thoughts if the conversation went like this.

me to salesman: man this bike runs hot

salesman: nah its normal

me: my boulevard isnt this hot

salesman: your boulevard is liquid cooled

me: why isnt this liquid cooled

salesman: it can be if you buy a limited, or spend $500 on a cooler

me: see ya..

fortunately for the dealership it was only a 15 minute ride, and a cooler day.

synopsis is this:

if you think the bike is too hot on the right, if your wife complains its too hot (even tho she shouldnt be wearing sandals), if you dont want to spend a ton of cash putting a fan or a cooler on,

remove the head pipe and gut the cat, or change it to an aftermarket pipe without cats.

I'm a metric cruiser convert: 2 liquid-cooled and 1 air-cooled, the most recent being my air-cooled Yamaha Road Star. My Road Star didn't run as hot as my SG (likely due to its 2-1 exhaust system and the head pipes being further away), but it was still hot, compared to the other 2.

When you buy an air-cooled bike, you have to expect some heat. It's the nature of the beast.

... or spend $70 for a Captain Itch Crotch Cooler and more time on the open road!

Yes, I did it and the diff is huge and you don't have to do anything to the map as long as you don't touch the AC (air cleaner). The O2 sensors take care of everything.

point 1 agreed, but originally i didnt know any better, only been riding for 5 years, and have only known what a liquid cooled engine did.

point 2. no money for the pipe and three hours of my time.... worth $23 an hour for your crotch cooler.... I dont make $23 an hour...

I came from a Vstar 1100 and its deff hotter. So much so that I was fine with 10/40 in my Yammer but going less than 20/50 was not even up for discussion on my RK!

if you are doing it for sound, you will be pleasantly satisfied for the price...
Thats exactly right!
