i just put formula plus in my tranny because i had it laying around. figured id use it up. cant wait to get it out. loud shifting and loud clunk. stuff is garbage. gonna go back to gear lube. yeah. it smells but bike shifts much much better.
Just replaced the tranny fluid at the 12000 mark. Went with Royal Purple 75/90. The HD fluid was rather dirty. A good bit of trace metal on the drain plug. Driving from FLA TO LA tomorrow, so I will let you know how it does.
It may be psychological, but the shifting seems smoother and not as loud.
Just a note about the multiple grade oils. The numbers are not the viscosity of the oil. It is an indication that it will protect at the same level as a true straight weight of that viscosity would.
A 10/40 motor oil will protect the engine at low temps as would a 10 weight oil. At high temps it will protect the same as a straight weight 40 would.
However the actual viscosity of a 10-40 is about 7 and lowers a little with temperature. That is the way a multi grade oil improves performance. It is thinner!!! Less drag.

Good info. The 75/90 I just used should work fine in the weather of the Gulf Coast.
Also in high temp/high humidity of the Gulf Coast. Just swapped at 10k from the stock stuff to Lucas Oil 75/140. Someone else said maybe it's mental and I agree, but it does seem to be running better. New oil of any type would have helped that though. I'd like to know how it helps in the long run from a real gear head.
