Got a question for ya there, Holster Maker....just who is it that goes out and teaches the deers to run away from them there whistles? And while we're at it, why couldn't I just whistle to the little deers myself? I'm a pretty good whistler and know several good tunes that I think the deers would enjoy.
Can you whistle after eating 12 saltine crackers ???
All this talk about venison is making me hungery. Cannot wait to fill freezer. AHHHHH tenderlions with onions and mushrooms. They are sooooooo goooooodd!!!
Used to hunt with them in Idaho. On the logging roads deer ignore trucks and cars but the deer whistles would make em get out of bed or otherwise move.Remember the spot and come back next day and hunt it.Some times it worked in my estimation.I do not know if there is any data that says it helps avoid wrecking.
One thing I did learn was the wider apart they are set the more the deer alert to them.
Never had deer whistles and never believed in them till I moved to South Jersey. After several close calls, I installed them on my car and no more close calls. Maybe I was just lucky, maybe they don't work but, they seemed to for me.
Now, having said that, I'll also say that on the bike, I've never had a deer jump out in front of me (knock on wood).
I've been in this debate since the beginning of time. The way I look at it, who knows, but I'll take any measures possible to prevent me from getting killed or injured on my motorcycle from animals or birds.
I like the ones I linked, because they only require "one" w/2 holes and can be hidden real easy....so what if it don't work, but once or twice!
Couple weeks ago a rider got hit with an Golden Eagle on Hwy 36 near my house and knocked him off the bike at 70 MPH. He was air-vac'ed to the hosp....that's why I say "bird / animal whistles" are required my my stuff!
The one on my old evo was under the left turn signal, just barley see it in the pic below. My new bike has it attached to the left front fender reflector. Cost me a five dollar bill or one burger in a basket w/drink!
