I've been thinking of going to a subdued muffler. Currently running white brothers with end caps for three years and I have been very pleased with the performance. However, lately the resonating sound is driving my ears nuts. After a couple of hours, my ears ring the rest of the day. I've tried custom fitted earplugs and a different helmet but no luck.
I went so far one day to bolt the original muffers back on my 2001 FLHT but it absolutely killed any performance. I am running andrews cams, airbox and jets.
A friend of mine just bought a new 07 Road Glide and he is going to change out his mufflers for aftermarket. Will they work on my 2001 FLHT and will they offer any performance enhancement over the 2001 original mufflers?
Bill C,
I don't know how you fee about the two into one pipe but I went with the Suppertrapp and really am impressed with the power and quiet I get from it. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't sound like stock pipes. It is quiet enough at an idle that you can talk standing next to the bike, yet when you turn the throttle it has a great low bark that definately says Harley. I highly recomend them.
Bill C,
Don't know of any performance enhancements but they will bolt onto your bike. I have a set of the '07 SE slipons for sale in the parts section if interested. These are slightly louder than the stockers.
Thanks for the suggestion. I bought some muffler packing several months ago, pulled the baffles and re-wrapped them. It helped a bit, but still has a pronounced resonating sound that numbs my ears.
