Default Compensator Bad Question

Friend with an 08 Deluxe is hearing what sounds like a chain whirling around sound coming from below and his wife tells him that when he first drives off, she can hear what sounds like a bell ringing sound. He say he can't tell what side of the engine the sounds are coming from but I'm leaning towards a comp issue. He thinks it may be a cam chain tensioner but on an 08 with 20,000, I don't think so.

If it turns out to be the compensator sprocket let me know. I upgraded my '08 SG to a SE comp when the bike had about 10K miles. I still have to original one and I'll let your friend have it cheap. It's in perfect condition.

Every noise is not automatically a compensator issue.

A bad compensator is more of a knocking sound. My guess on the whirring sound is that the automatic primary chain tensioner just adjusted up a notch and is a little on the tight side.

Bell ringing......you have a demon bell?? She has some good ears.

On an 08 I would lean towards inner primary bearing. I just replaced one at 24000 miles on an 08 Road King. It made some noise when the bike was running and in neutral but went away when the bike was shifted into gear. Maybe?

Thought that also but he says the noise is there while the bike is moving....He has someone coming over on Monday to diagnose the noises......
