Default Cam shim

Hey guys I have another question.I tore my 2010 SG apart yesterday to put in my cams I ordered ,doesn't look like they are gonna be here until atleast Monday. So anyways I went to dealer to get gaskets and o-rings and figured I would get all the shims while I was there they only had the .130,.140,and the .150.Mine had the .130 in it when I tore it apart ,my question is how would you possibly have to put a different size in it? It just doesn't make sense unless I am missing something ,there is a shoulder on the cam and I'm using the same sprocket bolted on it so the distance from the back of the sprocket to the shoulder on the cam would have to be approximately the same width. So I'm just thinking if I took a .130 then it should be good to go back,of course I will check when cams get here. Thanks guys

I've swapped several sets of cams for myself and other people. I've had to use a different shim on about half of them. In one case we had to shim a set of SE255's. On the other hand, I didn't have to shim when I went from stock cams to HQ575's. I had to shim when I went from HQ575 to TMan 590's though. I'm guessing it's just a matter of manufacturing tolerance variances.

Good luck on your project.

Zach

I had to go from .110 to .120 i think in mine....was just 1/10th...Depends on the cam and the way it was machined. You will have to wait until you have the other cam in to know for sure with the feeler gauges....only way 2 no fo sur....

The variation could be anything, but the good news is measuring and picking a shim is not difficult.
