Default Axles???

I just bought a wheel from my brother. I bought his front wheel. He has. 1996 Roadking. I have a 2006 Street Glide. The wheel seems to fit ok but my axle is way to thick. Will a 97 axle fit the forks on my 06?
Thanks

I think one of the bikes used a 1.00" bearing/axle and the other used a 25mm bearing/axle. You can probably just change the bearings to the correct size for your axle and be good (the bearings are probably ready to be changed anyway).

I do not have the bearings from my 2006. I sold my wheel with the bearings in it.

I think 2000 to 2006 uses a 1" axle but prior to 2000 didn't they have tapered bearings? If that's the case it'll be 3/4" and won't work with your axle. If it's a sealed bearing wheel you can put whatever bearing you need in it.

The bearings in the wheel I bought are 3/4". My axle is a 25mm. My 25mm bearings are narrower than the 3/4 bearings that came with the wheel I bought. In case you are wondering why I do not have 1" bearings is because I have a front wheel and axle off of a 2010 RG on my bike now. I was just hoping I could get an axle off a 96 RK and install my new wheel. However it appears I will have to get a set of bearings and axle from a 2006 touring. Unless the 96 axle will fir my forks.

Did the caliper and rotor line up? I was thinking of putting the 18" agitator wheel but HD is saying the caliper wont fit because the rotor is bigger, let alone axle size difference

You could change your fork sliders or the just the hub if it's a spoke wheel. I recently put Fatboy sliders on a Road King to eliminate the right side brake caliper mount and use the proper axle for the wheel he wanted to run.

I had to have to rotors turned down they were to large in diameter. Once I did that it has been fine. Been running the wheel from the 10 for a while now.

I modified a 3/4" rear hub axle to accept a 1" axle. I had to enlarge the hole thru the hub with a large stepped drill so the inner spacer would fit then installed new 1" bearings.
