Default Need Amp Suggestions

I posted this in the Audio Section and it was recommended I post it here.
Needs some help in deciding which amp to use. I have upgraded the fairing speakers to the J&M Rokker 7 1/4. The sound is way better than the upgraded Boom audio speakers. Cleaner sound. I do not have an amp yet and was looking to add the new Harley bagger lids and speakers. Looking to add an amp to drive all four speakers. The J&M 4 channel seems a little overboard. Would the Boom Audio 4 channel amp be a good choice, pros or cons any any other options? I like the clean look of the new Harley Lid speaker kit, it seems very clean. I was looking at a set on a new CVO at the dealer, flows nicely and not overbearing.

If you don't mind giving up some bag space, look into the JL Audio amps. I have a five channel JL amp and it sounds great.

RF PBR300x4 Amp.Will fit under the fairing that way you don't lose anymore bag space. Plenty enough power.

I agree with the RF amp. Small and plenty of power. Good price, easy install. I will be ordering it in the next 2 weeks.

I ordrered the RF PBR300X4 amp and will use it to run two Polk db691 6X9's.

This will only use the front two channels of the amp, leaving the rear channels open for bag speakers later on.

Just in case anyone needs to know, I called Rockford Fosgate and ask about leaving the two rear channels open.

They said the amp will work fine on just two channels, and it would give the full 75W RMS to each channel being used.

I hope this amp is as good as the reviews. Everyone says its a great little amp.

If you are running 2 ohm speakers the Rockford amp will not work for you. You might want to get some nice 4 ohm speakers and the Rockford PBR300x4 amp. Hertz 6.5 inch in the fairing and lowers would sound real nice.

Thanks for the input. The problem is I just forked out the $$$ for the J&M's and they are 2 ohm not 4 ohm that's one of the reasons I was looking at the Harley Boom Audio amp, only adds an additional 40 per channel so the J&M Rokker 7.25's I have might be overkill. Just using the fairing speakers at the moment and plan on the Lid speakers down the road. Looks like I might of overdone it on the Rokker's.

The availability of 2 ohm stable, 4-channel amps that will fit inside the fairing is a major limiting factor in your choices. The J&M 500W and the Arc 125.4 on which the J&M amp is based are the two most prominent choices. Hogtunes offers a 2 ohm stable 4-channel amp, and some here have used it and are pleased with it. Hawg-wired may also offer a 2 ohm stable 4 channel amp, as well.

You can contact RF's customer service to ask about the PBR300X4 amp's compatibility with the J&M 2 ohm impedance speakers. I suspect they'll say they aren't compatible. If it was my bike, I'd sell the J&M's (you'll get a good price since they're popular), and do as previously suggested--buy the RF amp and some good 4 ohm impedance 6.5" speakers for the fairing, and 4 ohm 5x7's for the saddlebag lids.

The HD Boom in-fairing amp is a reasonable alternative, though at 40W per channel it provides, by comparison to the above two amps, a modest power boost.

I agree with you that the 2012 CVO SG speaker lids offer a nice installation, so I've got the lids, grilles, and speaker baskets--basically the HD saddlebag speaker lid kit minus the HD speakers and harnesses. Shopping now for speakers and painter.

I'm using the RF PBR300X4 amp for the fairing and fairing lowers speakers, and will add a second one for the saddlebag lid speakers and tour pak speakers.

Good luck with your project.

Carl

The RF PBR300X4 WILL NOT work with 2 ohm speakers.

I wanted to use Polk MM691 speakers but they are 2.7 ohms. I called Rockford Fosgate and thet said to only use 4 ohm speakers with the PBR300X4.
