Default Hypercharger or Big sucker

In another post it seamed that every one used Big Sucker from Arlen Ness. I like the looks of the Hypercharger by Kuryacken. What are your thoughts. All you guys who are in the "know". Thanks in advance for all the advice.

I have no first hand experience with one, but people whose knowledge about such things I respect say that the Hypercharger is all about looks, not performance. I CAN vouch that the stage 2 Big Sucker pulls in a lot more air than the stock HD setup.

The standard hypercharger will not cost you any performance gains until you've built your motor up over 90hp. If you plan to go bigger and you still like the looks, you can buy the add on trap door "stinger" element which will feed up to a 130hp motor. This is what I did; because I like the looks of the hypercharger...and I like it even better with the additional stinger breather add on.

Now here is something else to consider no one ever brings up. With the Ness big sucker and the SE air cleaner, the head breathers are molded right into the body of the air cleaner; so you have no control over where the vented oil mist is going to go. My father in law is dealing with this right now. Where those ports come out, it dumps the oil mist right into the air cleaner...which will end up dripping down on the engine whenever he has it out for sustained high speed rides on the interstate.

With the hypercharger, and many other makes of air cleaners, you can route hoses under the tank to ground, or use many of the other commercial filter options...including the old timers trick of running a tube into a small 'catch can'...which as I've seen it was as simple as a travel sized shampoo bottle zip tied to an inner frame rail. No mess. How are you going to deal with it once NESS/SE takes that option away? I keep telling my father in law to just put a womans panty liner pad inside the cover of his air cleaner cover to catch the drips...so far he refuses and keeps on bitching.

I ran the hypercharger on my roadstar because I liked the looks of it,but I found that I had to jet the carb so rich to perform well when I was running it hard that i was fouling my plugs every 4 or five hundred miles when just putting around town. Also the hc sticks out further then stock, and my knee kept rubbing it.I switched to the patrick racing oval air kit and that solved both of the problems.

I had the Hypercharger on my 750 ACE and it looked really cool, but did not add any noticable performance. Plus, I spent about $500.00 get the carbs rejetted, and then re-rejetted when they got messed up the first time. The guy who finally did it right had to put the biggest jets available on and it still ran lean.

The moral of the story...now that I have my Road King I refuse to put on a Hypercharger...All show, no go. I've thought about the Big Sucker, but I like the way the bike runs now and really have no desire to go through all that for 6-7 horsepower that I won't use anyway. I have always wanted a big bagger because they are loud, slow and comfy. I do 70 mph on the interstate and drive like an old woman everywhere else. Just personal preference I guess.

I agree on both counts, there is no accounting for taste I guess but I wouldn't run a Hyper on my bike if they where giving them away free(I have always hated things that are designed only for looks & actually hurt performance)
