The FOB uses the widely available 2032 battery. You can get them at Walmart in packs of two for a little over 4 bucks. I just changed the batteries in both of my FOBs, although they were still going strong after 16 months. My plans going forward are to change them routinely each year during the month when I purchased the bike.
And you are defeating the purpose of the security fob by keeping it in a saddle bag. You are making it really easy for the thieves.
I kinda like the idea of doing my FOBs at the same time as I do the smoke detectors in the house. I've used the Code when I was too lazy to walk back to the house, but it's still kind of a PIA. A working FOB is a lot easier when everyone else is taking off and you're still sitting there scrolling through the display.
This spring my bike was 2 years and a month old. I was going on a trip so I replaced them, so I wouldn't have any trouble on the trip.
My actual battery on the bike quit in the middle of nowhere 350 miles from home though.
Make sure the batteries are fresh and you get a good brand like Energizer or Duracell, stay away from the cheaply made ones, there is a difference. You can tell when they are getting weak because you will have to stand closer to the bike for it to work.
