Road King.. a misnamed tourer
HD Touring lineup is basically the same bike with different
add-ons/features.
If you really do tour often and especially ride two up it is hard
to beat the ultra as a package. Yes, you can add most everything
to a RK but in the end you probably dont have the exact same
thing and even if you did you would have spent many $$$$
more than just starting with a ultra.
The genius of HD accessories is they not only go on a bike but
they come off as well. So a ultra can become a bar hopper,
city bike, and tourer. Just like a RK.
Really the same.

what he said
THIS ^^^
Plus, prior to the 70's, all the "touring" bikes looked just like the King, or even more sparse.
The King is the King of the Road. And it is so because it can go from full on touring across the country, to a stripped down cruiser headed to the local bar.
Now, if you're gonna super slab it, get a Glide, or a car.
1.) Ride two up ever for more than 15 minutes
2.) Would enjoy keeping dry/warm
3.) Like to have a 80W 4 speaker sound system with separate rider/pass controls
4.) Enjoy the benefits of a am fm radio/cd/mp3/weather band
5.) Think a intercom system could come in handy
6.) Ever have need for a cb if stranded
7.) Like the ability to store more than your keys in the lockable luggage
8.) Think keeping road debris/bugs from your pretty smile can be a good thing
9.) Believe things like full gauges come in handy
10.) Power ports for additional electrical accessories might be nice
11.) Feel cruise control makes for a more enjoyable ride
And of course
Can pull the tourpak and lower fairings ( with HD quick disconnect kits ),
change to a shorty windshield, and toss on a solo seat in about 5 minutes.
IMO have a much nicer bar hopper/cruiser

1. Don't ride 2 up anymore unless someone here knows someone to whom they want to introduce me. I'd only date someone who rides her own or likes to ride 2 up. In other words, motorcycle friendly. 2. I have good textile riding clothes and a QD fairing to stay dry 3. I'm almost deaf so just hearing the wind and rumble is music to my ears 4. Same as above. I check the weather before I leave each morning. 5. Already have CB's, so do my friends. We just end up not using them very often. 6. ditto 7. Got it with the RK 8. Got it with the RK 9. Well, you got me there. I do not even have a tach! 10. I have power ports 11. I have cruise control
Guess I get an Ultra when I need a nicer bike.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
It is what it is no matter what the category it's placed into.
My classic is an awesome, no regrets bike....no matter how you class it.
I find this thread somewhat confusing....is there a beef?
