103 in a 2006? Do you have 4" cylinders?
The problem with the High Torque starters, ( that were really popular back in the 90's,) is that though they give you additional windings for more power, they transmit that power through the same gear reduction and starter drive clutches as the stock starter, and that's where the failures occur.
I'd run a stock starter with compression releases if the stock unit won't do it as is.
I have compression releases and have had the starter replaced and I still got a grinding noise when starting. Now it won't start just whines.I've brought it to HD Dealers,Indys, and now I'm looking to buy the parts and fix it myself.I've installed 4AWG copper battery cables, new battery, starter and even bypassed starter switch and nothing seems to stop this.I'm tired of being the guy in a ride that makes everyones head turn when I start my bike.
The whining is probably a starter drive clutch, ( one of those 'stock' things that wear out first, and is the same on all starters, stock or High Torque.) It's a $60 unit aftermarket.
There's no warranty on the starter you just had replaced?
