Looking for new helmets, my wife likes a full face helmet. I may go full face or full helmet with a good shield. Looking for suggestions, we want them to be as light and thin as possible?
I would suggest you find a local dealer that has a wide range of helmets and go expecting to spend a lot of time there. My wife and I went to a local dealer, tried a bunch on, narrowed it down to a few chosen ones, then wore those for a bit to make sure there were no hotspots. I wound up with an Arai RX-Q and she got a Suomy Excel.
And lightness was one of our criteria. But be warned, they are not cheap, but we thought our heads were worth it.
NexL... did its job 3 times !!!
First pic shows 2 impacts with pavement....
Second pic shows sliding on my back across intersection.....
Nothing would have protected my face had it made contact with pavement....
Check out Leatherup.com. They have a lot of selections, and very good prices. I use a 3/4 with shield and flip down sun shield for cold weather, and a 1/2 helmet for warmer weather. (and no helmet for hot weather!)
I went face down earlier this year when a deer jumped on top of me at 40mph. Luckily I had on my flip-up full face (aka modular) helmet on, which up until that time, I wore less than 5% of the time. It saved my face & life. Won't ride without it now. If you want more the feel of an open face with more of the protection of a full face, look at the Nolan N43 Trilogy. It has a much larger faceshield area and a removable chin bar. It's also lighter weight than any full face I've tried. My wife has one and loves it and she HATES wearing a helmet (until she got this one. I'm going to get one myself.
I have a Shoei FF. Use it with both bikes. Ride with shield up, wearing sunglasses on the RKC, wind in face. With shield mostly down while on the Multistrada. Have Chatterbox attached so to bluetooth with GPS/MP3 that works with the shield either way. It's pretty quiet and has good ventilation with sheild closed. I like it. That said, my wife just chose the HJC modular Chatterbox version helmet as a replacement for her. It will allow her to have a "FF" and still be able to have some water without taking off the whole helmet. There is value to that thinking. Good luck.
I have a Shark Evoline, and Shoei Qwest ff as stated above, shop around pick what's roght for you. I like the Shark because it goes from ff to 3/4, but my Shoei is more comfortable plus its SNELL approved.
I will give another endorsement for Shoei Qwest. I bought one and wore it the first time on a 650 mile ride last weekend. It is very light and a well-made helmet.
