you could switch to an oil that stayed clear as honey longer....but all that would mean is that the oil is not cleaning and instead is leaving deposits through out your engine. So basically, if the oil turns coal black its carrying away deposits. deposits can be caused by low octane gas and relatively low RPM ranges.
I Agree, just shows your oil additives are working. Usual change is at 5,000 miles. With synthetic, you can do 2,500, let it sit over winter and do the other 2,500...then change. Find some 93 octane gas ( non-ethanol preferably) and keep your rpms up more.
Your forgetting that a quart of dirty oil is still in your engines after an oil change and after a few miles it mixes with the clean oil and it get dark right away. I use the Scavenger system from Rogue Chopper which drain that quart out of the sump. My Mobil 1 stays clean longer, simply because all the oil gets changed. You want to know more google the Scavenger and watch the video...nuff said.....
I find it hard to believe ANY synthetic oil, especially a multi-weight, would become thicker. What would cause this? Maybe it's coming out at it's true viscosity rather than worn out thin, as multi weight dino oils do?
I run mobil 1 in my sb and change it every 3k miles and I dont think its overly black or thick. While draining it I found myself wondering if I shouldnt have waited til 4k miles. Sucks that you're having bad luck with it.
