I just purchased a 2012 FLTRX. I had the V&H Power Dual Headers & V&H Hi-out put slip ons added as well as a SE High Flow air filter.
Now, the pipe on the left side of the bike (the one that has two turns in the header) shows a lot of carbon build-up at the very tip and the one on the right side (coming straight out) shows very little if any.
Parts guy at the dealer said that was because the left pipe in fact had the turn in it causing the exhaust to slow down and therefore allowing the carbon to drop onto the tip and the the right side, because it was straight out was blown out at a higher speed and would not accumulate as much on the tip....
It was "mapped" I will be getting a dyno after the 1K mile service. Hopefully the weekend of Nov 4th.
I'm thinking your canned map is likely the culprit; after you get the dyno tune (hopefully they tune for individual cylinders), look at the AFR trace lines on the print out, if they are where they are supposed to be, then give it a chance. Swab the pipes out to clean off the carbon and then monitor to see if it returns.
