I have tie-down points on my frame that I bought from a vendor, just as others have posted, I ratchet the front about 1/2 down then secure the rear, I have straps with the fuzzy stuff to protect the finish on the bike, not to mention the straps I use are probably 2x stronger than they need to be, better too strong than too weak.

Wheel chock with tie down straps running around the fork tubes just above the front fender attachment points on both sides. Then two more straps around the passenger foot pegs or sometimes the saddle bag support bars. Where the front tie downs are it does not compress the front suspension at all and run no risk of the straps having slack in them due to the bouncing. When I crank on the rear straps it compresses front and rear suspension just a little.
This is the way I've done (along with a wheel chock) and there is no slack due to fork compression. I also strap somewhere along the sides and back.
strap the front wheel to the chock 1 strap with soft ties to each side of the handlebars snuggly compress the Fe about 1"-2" and 2 ties to hold the back end down 1 each side...that's how I do it in my toy hauler...never any problems
