I have a 05 EG with just over 1000 miles. It has the stage 1 AC, SE Pipes and a dynojet kit. I runs fine except for a occasional cough when I start from Idle. What could cause this?
Also I have terrible gas mileage compared to my 94 EVO Softail Custom. I think I get about 35 miles to a gallon. What is the typical gas mileage for a EG equipped like mine??
Have been reluctant to post mileage numbers for my EG Classic FI, as they seem pretty high, but I have kept a pretty good record, and I'm getting between 48 and 52 pretty consistently at 65 to 75 MPH. I get about 2 MPG better than the wife's carburated 2001 Heritage.
I have a SE air cleaner, factory touring mufflers, and a factory remap.
Not an RG but a similar drivetrain. 05 RK Classic, just picked it up June 17. Stage One has been done. Hit 2500 miles this morning. Been checking the mileage every tank, last one was the best so far, 47.5 mpg riding solo, mainly highway miles. Cosistently gets 44 mpg riding two-up. Did dip to 40 mpg once. Overall I guess I can't complain.

Your mileage should increase as the motor breaks in futher, the little cough might be worked out with the low speed idle/air screw, usually around 2 to 3 turns out any more than 3 1/2 you might have to go up a number on the main jet. Are you getting any decel pop/backfire?
I'm riding a Road Glide not a EG, but with EFI, stage1, SE pipes, fully loaded 2 up (running a tour pack)I'm averaging 49-52. Regardless of any other factor or serious wrist twisting its never done worse than 49mpg. You sound a bit low but it might improve some with a little tweeking. Good luck....
I'll pitch in here too, but I have a deuce with 203 cams, big bore, stage 1 aircleaner, stage 2 download and I got 47.7 averaged over three tank fulls, I'm happy with that.
Your milage in the dumper is more than likely related to the dyno jet kit, they usually lower the milage because they are on the rich side. The POP usually can be adjusted out with the idle mixture screw. Warm up the bike and then close the screw EASY and LIGHTLY bottom it out. It may stall here, so open it 1 full turn and restart .Adjust it here to the highest and smoothest idle you can get. Count the turns when closing it so you know how much more open it is when you are done. Should do it.
If you decide to remove the dyno jet kit for better mileage, there's a post in the DIY section for rejetting the CV carb.
