I haven't seen the kits to which you are referring, but your dealer has wellnuts in stock for a buck or so. Every time I changed the windshield on my RG, I would lose at least one into the fairing, so I learned to keep a few in my drawer. My local Lowe's has similar wellnuts in stock, but they are a little too short for the RG (at least on my '08).

Lowes is where I buy mine. Around a buck each. They will work with most windshields...... but not the Clearview, since it is extra thick.

NOTE: When you install them on the shield, screw them in until they make contact, then stop. When you install the shield on the bike tighten the screws 8 (EIGHT) turns and stop. That will hold the shield on the bike, and not distort the barrel nuts. Then when you go to take the shield off, unscrew the screws 8 turns and the shield will come off with the barrel nuts on the shield.

Default Clearview mounting kit for the RG

Is it a good idea to use one of the Well Nut Screw Kits? If so, which one?

Here are a couple of ebay links:

Thanks.
Just a quick shout out...our mounting kits cost $13 and are sturdier than stock. Shipping is generally $4.95 with USPS...

Wanted you all to know.

Hi Stash...just to let you know, our well nuts are sturdier and have a bigger "flat" end, so our customers don't have that problem you mention...

Well as of 6 days ago I joined the club. Rather than take the fairing apart I now have a rubber well nut in there somewhere. ACE Hardware had the right size so I bought 5 of them just in case. They were $1 each.

I installed the F4 tinted 18.5" windshield.

Hey. Since you're a site Sponsor, and the price seemed reasonable, I figured I'd order the well nut mounting kit from you. When I went to your cart though, the least expensive shipping option to NY was $14.44 for UPS. There was no $4.95 USPS option. I tried calling, but probably after hours and got a recording. I'm interested in buying but not if the shipping cost is greater than the product.

Hi bigdaddy...I'll adjust the shipping when I process the order to the USPS $4.95 as promised. Our website doesn't automatically charge the card - I do that when I process the order. Sorry for the confusion...I'll be watching for the order...

I'd like to take credit for an original idea on that, but I learned it from Chainsaw on another forum.
What he said. Also, there is no need to tighten them down - 1 turn past snug is good.
