I received a flyer from the Dealer. It had an article about battery maintenance recommending using Battery Tender Plus, rather than Battery Tender Junior. Does it really matter? The article said the "Plus" puts our more power, but does that really mater, since once the Tender brings the battery to 13.2 volts (according to Battery Tender Customer Service) either one maintains the battery.
What do you guys/gals use and do you think the article makes sense choosing the "Plus" over the "Junior"?
Thanks in advance.
Save your money and get the junior. The junior is fine to 'float charge' your battery, that is, it maintains your battery in a topped up condition. The Battery Tender Plus is able to slowly bring up an already dead battery, but if you have a dead battery to begin with it's better to replace it as you most likely have damaged cells.
Got my first Battery Tender (not the +) not long after they first came out. A few years later I found a deal on Battery Tender Jr., so I bought two. The Jr.s work just as well as the full size tender & have a longer cord. They'll even maintain car batteries. As far as I'm concerned the Jr. is as good or better than the larger units.
I'm going to go the other way and suggest the Battery Tender Plus unit.
It is true that both will maintain your battery once it's fully charged.
If you ever leave your lights on or do anything else that runs down the battery, the Plus will get you back on the road a lot faster.
If you already have a battery charger with the correct amperage for a motorcycle battery (1-2 amps), then you might want to get the Junior. If not, and you ever want to recharge your battery more quickly, then get the Plus.
Ultimately it's your money and your choice. If it was my choice, I'd spend a few dollars more and get the Plus.
My bike already came w/the Battery Tender tether. So, I bought the Junior, hooked the new tether to my truck and use the alligator clips for the tractor battery.
If the battery is not severly discharged, the Junior works just fine. If it's borderline, I just use my regular charger on the 2 amp mode.
