Default Road kill

A few weeks ago I had a 6 point buck broad side me. The bike and the deer were both totaled but I am healing rapidly and have started to look at replacement bikes.

My question is if I was going 45 mph and the deer hit me broad side would the force knock me and the bike to our side and then slide on the skid bars or did I lock up the non abs brembos on 09 RK and wash the front end out from under me. One other factor was that I never saw the deer until we were sliding together with it in my lap.

My injuries were a broken right leg from the deer impact and broken ribbs on the left from the impact with ditch. Helmet, leathers and skid bars saved alot of additional pain.

Glad to hear your doing ok. You would think the deer could make you fall over. I could be wrong. Maybe it was a combination of deer and brakes ?

Yes it could knock you down easily. Did he have insurance? Glad you're mending.

I would bet it was the deer and not your braking that put you completely on your side. You said you never even seen the deer until you were both sliding down the road together, which tells me there's no way you could have reacted to apply the brakes anyway.
Either way, glad you're healing up well.

I did have insuranse and the people at Progressive were fantastic. I'm leaning towards the next bike having anti-lock for those times that come at you so fast your not even sure what you did or didn't do.

I'm not sure I could come up with a reason not to have anti-lock brakes. I've heard the argument that a rider couldn't lay it down if he had to as a reason not to get them, but in all honesty, we should all be riding in a fashion that would keep us from needing to lay it down.

Like I said, I really don't see a downside to having ABS, other than it might be a pain in the *** to install new bars!

I agree on the laying it down. Those who say who say that you could'nt lay it down if you had to I'm willing to bet they have not slid 100ft on the skid bars in the wrong lane and then have all hell break lose when you hit the ditch. Your best chance has to be to slow down as much as possible prior to impact. On the skid bars you do not slow down very much prior to impact. Been there and am very lucky to limp away to ride another day.

Glad to hear you got away with just those injuries.

Have to agree if you didn't see it you probably didn't jump on the brakes.
They are good a sucker punching you.

Did they at least let you take it home to dress it and have dinner.

Default Recall?

My question is do you remember every element of the incident? Or have you "lost" part of the incident to your memory?

The reason I ask is from my worst accident back in '70, I don't remember what happened at all -- I remember riding just prior to it, and I remember regaining consciousness after I was back on two feet -- nothing between.

Curious...
