That's not true. As noted by several other posts in this thread and many other threads, the boom speakers are a great improvement over stock. Adding an amp will improve the sound quality even more.

+1 on this ..... I have the Boom Speakers and Bass Port Kit and noticed a signifcant improvement ..... granted with an amp there would be more of a difference but for the money spent I am VERY happy.

I didnt want to spend the $$ to go the amp route but wanted something a bit better than the stock sound, so I went with the Boom speakers. Its certainly not Dolby surround sound but it IS better than stock. One thing I noticed is that they have less distortion at higher volumes than the stock speakers, and I think the sound quality is generally much more clear. As other have said, if you want something a little better than stock without going the amp route I think you will be happy.

I just finished installing the entire kit (76000074) - speakers and amp, and it made a HUGE difference in sound. I wish there were more bass, but what do you expect out of smaller speakers and a pair of tweeters. Going down the highway 75 to 80, very little distortion, MUCH better sound. Money well spent IMHO.

Note, if you're riding a SG, you're also going to need a radio wire harness cable p/n 69200106. They don't tell you that ahead of time, and I ended up having to wait an extra 4 or so days for that cable to come in.

+1 on the positive replies.

I put a set of the Boom replacement speakers in my Glide. IMO there is a great improvement in the overall sound, much more clear, less distortion. On my bike I can easily hear them at 50-60% vol on the freeway at 65 -85 mph.

Sure adding a amp or higher end head unit, speakers more speakers in the bags or lowers will get you better sound but for 149.00 list price ( I paid 119 at the dealer with a 20% discount) I dont think you can go wrong.

Also they are a direct fit and plug and play
