My 09 FLHP came with long-stem non-convex mirrors that give excellent visibility but were not to my liking so I got a set of short-stem HD mirrors that I hang underneath the heritage bars (see sig pic). When positioned as such, they give a great view of the road and have no view obstruction because I'm looking under my arm. WHere this breaks is when I have the Tour Pak on I am seeing too much of the box. To fix this I got a set of stock HD mirrors (same as what are on your bike) and they work great when adjusted such that the stem part of the mirror was nearly perpendicular to the frame. When they were not in this position (angled towards the back of the bike), I was seeing too much of my arms...
I have had the same problem on every HD I have owned. I current have an '02 Heritage and a '12 Road Glide Ultra and I have Kuryakyn Magnum Plus mirrors on both. You can probably save a few bucks on eBay if you are patient.
DannyZ is partially correct. HD does make longer mirrors, however the stems are only about 1" longer than standard.
The "Long Stem Tapered Mirror" is the replacement for what came on your RK. $35/side.
I replaced on both my FBoy & RGlide. Not sure why they are not standard on all the Touring bikes...
