Default RE: Solo Seat

ORIGINAL: iclick

I just bought a new SG two weeks ago today ...... The Close version was perfect, and although hard allowed me to ride for hours without discomfort. Don't be fooled by an initial sensation that the seat feels like a board, because it will "break in" to your butt shape and will be quite comfortable. My only reason for moving away from Corbin was the cost. The Mustang was $410 shipped, and a Corbin Solo with backrest would've cost over 50% more.

I understand the sentiment, but after dropping $21K on the bike spending another $700 - really only $300 more - on the spot most likely to interfere with my comfort and enjoyment of the bike does't seem unreasonable. It depends on your individual circumstances. As I stated earlier, I'm a big guy. That puts more pressure on the seat than someone half my weight. Secondly, my wife and I like to ride about 300 miles a day, weekends and vacations. That increases the importance of a firm sit that fits. I don't enjoy riding if my butt hurts. I have several friends with other seats (smaller, lighter, local riders) who are perfectly happy with them. If I weighed 100 lbs less, rode 100 miles a day, and/or enjoyed pain - I wouldn't spend the bucks on a Corbin. I'd also be on a V-rod, but that's another discussion.

For the way I ride, I'd rather have a Corbin than anything else I could spend the same money on. My Road Glide is almost completely stock right now (6 days old) but it already has the Corbin I took off my Road King on it - doesn't look all that great, only kinda fits the bike, but it sure FEELS good! For me, if I had to choose between a stage one setup or a Corbin, it would be the Corbin. My wife, who is just a little skinny thing, feels the same way.

Sometimes good just isn't good enough. Work shoes and boots are that way for me. If I spend $160 on a pair and feel great all day for many days wearing them, it is a better value for me than a $100 pair that will just get me by. The next guy might feel differently. I don't buy Corbins because I want the most expensive seat I can find. I buy them because they perform a CRITICAL task for me better than anything else I've ever found.
