Default Gerbing XE Jacket

Just received my Gerbing extreme element jacket and kinda dissapointed, they no longer have the power distrubiton unit, just three sets of wires that hang out of a zipper. This would have been a deal breaker for me if I'd known before buying as I liked the p.d.u. idea and dont like the idea of plugs just hanging out from a $360.00 jacket.

Interesting, I didn't realize they'd changed that. It's a great jacket though, that's kept me warm in single-digit temperatures.

They still have it for jacket liner but don't know if that was even offered on Extreme Element jackets.

I'm a big fan of heated gear and have a Gerbings liner but I looked at their jackets with integrated heating and to me they seem kinda pointless. To me a heated liner seems cheaper and more versatile. As a jacket the Gerbings did not seem to be usable in mild to warmer temps and had pretty much no crash protection. It also means you have to carry another jacket for warmer conditions when touring. A heated liner is a lot easier to stow. I'm a big fan of four season adventure tour type of gear. I'm currently using an Olympia jacket that is as comfortable as mesh gear in the extreme heat with huge mesh vents open and good down to about ~40F with the liners installed and vents closed. It's also totally waterproof in heavy rain with the liner so I don't have to carry rain gear. It also has the crash protection of a leather armored jacket. I crashed my KTM last summer and slid 10-15ft on a dirt/gravel road with no damage to myself or the jacket. With the heated liner it's comfy down to well below freezing.

There's some sense to that, then again, I have both the XE jacket & pants for the really cold stuff (and BTW, they have extensive CE-rated armor), and a heated jacket liner for the more variable rides.

The XE stuff is nice because it's heated and waterproof, and is armored enough to save your butt in a crash. It is only for 50 degrees & below, as it's pretty well insulated.
