Since this thread popped up again, Ill update my experience since the last post.
I ended up buying the 940 from US Motoman for 459.00 delivered, great service and got them in 3 days. Installed them and rode about 500 miles. They were a big improvement over the stock shocks IMO. But at my weight (210 lbs ) and I ride solo I was not able to get the setup the way they recommended with about 2" of total sag (1" with the bike only and another with the rider/s ) the stock springs were too stiff (115 -155lbs). The stock springs are the same rate as the HD springs by Progressive and are made for 2 up or heavier riders.
So I contacted Progressive Tech line and talked to Frank, he was very helpful and offered to change out the springs at no charge,to the standard rate springs. He also said they may be offering the 940 in the future with the lighter springs. im only about 60 miles from them so i dropped them off and they swapped the springs while I waited. Again IMO great service.
Since changing the springs I have about 1000 miles on them, I have them adjusted to about 1.5 " of sag with me on the bike and the preload is between 1 and 2 turns down.
The bike sits on the jiffy stand at the same height as before with the 12" shocks, drops about another 1/2 with me on it. And overall it rides better and handles better that ever before. much softer ride over the bumps, no bottoming yet and still handles tight in corners.
based on my skill levels and experience Im very happy with the shock. Ive also used progressives on my Sporty, and Fatboy with good results. These 940 also have a lifetime warranty so if you need it they will rebuild at no cost.
Im sure that there are higher end shocks out there and perform better , Ohlins for example but for the $ I spent and the lifetime warranty Im satisfied with my purchase. Im also running monotubes in the forks and overall the bike is much improved.
If I go the 940 route, I hope they come out with the different spring option sooner than later. I am 200 pounds and ride solo at least 70% of the time. I have a feeling the standard 940s may be too stiff.
I am looking into picking up a set of 940. I asked my dealer if they worked with them before and they said there has been reports of bottoming out alot they recommended the 440 now i dont want to spend $500 to scratch my mufflers all to hell anybody have any real reviews on these
I am 280 lbs and my girlfriend is 105 lbs... We don't bottom out the 940's, we have them set in the middle of the firmness setting. They are night and day better than the factory crap Harley calls shocks. If the Ohlins are a significant upgrade to the 940's I couldn't imagine how they'd feel. I road my bike with the 940's, mono tubes and touring link to Sturgis and I couldn't be happier with the purchase...
