I have a Dragonfly fairing installed on a 2005 RK and would like to be able to use the stereo while on accessory so the lights are not on. Does anybody know which wire I should splice into?
It is an option to use the accessory switch, but I am sorry I can't help you with that info on wiring.
I take it you do intend to remove you fairing, so you need to be able to quick disconnect your power source?
What I choose to do was run a fused cable directly from the battery. Ran the wire under gas tank to just under the nachelle. At this point I have a plug (the same type two wire plug like you may find on a trailer) where the fairing can plug into.
Inside the fairing I installed a switch that controls the overall power to the fairing. this way if I choose to listen to music it is completely independant from the bikes ignition. I am running an amp only that I use with my iPod.
See photo. Red power switch on left side of fairing.
I don't have a circuit for 05 bikes but I have looked at the '10 circuit.
I guess the key thing is understanding how competent an confident you are with electrics?
Do you have a multimeter and are you comfortable with using it?
Also, the ACC ignition switch position circuit is protected by a 2 Amp fuse, which sounds like a good idea really. Not sure what current the stereo system pulls, but that certainly won't drive Amps etc
I know how to use a multimeter, however my knowledge of electronics is very little. I was able to wire and do some basic troubleshooting when I installed the fairing.
I was hoping to splice the accessory power wire so when I turned the switch to Accessory it would power on the radio. I was assuming all I needed to figure out was which wire I needed to splice, am I wrong?

Thanks for your help.
Thanks
No, you are not wrong. It is more a question on finding the best place to splice from a convenience perspective and also where, if any, there are fuses.
Do you have a workshop manual with a circuit? We can try work from the '10 cct I have but that could be a bit risky
Usually any orange wire with a white stripe is switched power.
On my '10 cct this would be the correct wire to use. It is protected by a 15A fuse and is live when the ignition switch is on OR in the ACC position.
Not sure which audio system you have. Be aware that there are normally 2 live supplies to the Audio system, one is to keep the memory and the other is the main supply. That is where you want to connect.
