Default Catalytic converter question.

Do all new HD's have catalytic converters in the head pipes? How can a person tell in the bike has them or not?

Some CVOs had them in the mufflers, but perhaps all are in the headpipe these days. Much better now without them.

All 2010 and up, and 09 Cali models, I think.

I'm not 100% sure about all Harleys, but the touring line does from 2010 up.

Yes they do. No not all in head pipe, some softails are in each muffler in front 25% of each muffler. I believe the FL's are in the headpipe collector. Cat's produce heat to operate and the more fuel applied to the cat the hotter they work. Also cat's do muffle and tone down exhaust note, and a well debated issue is if they are restrictive: my opinion is they are slightly restrictive. I can tell you I replaced my 2011 Heritage mufflers with a pair of Rush 1.75" baffled slip on mufflers. The cat's came off with the mufflers, deep exhaust note at idle, moderate to loud on accell and soft rumble note at hwy cruise speed. 60% of the heat is gone and throttle and power improved as tested by the seat of the pants. Bike runs totaly better. The softail line does have a balance tube between mufflers which perform like a 2-1 system and add a deep note to the exhaust.
