Just remember that the '08 and earlier parts will not fit the '09 and later models.
That means any detachable parts that end in -98 up to -08.
If you buy them, you will be wasting time and money.

4-point, rack and Harley bag. You can find the Harley bag for under $200. Try Surdyke and others. Holds as much as the chopped tour pack. Lifts right off, carry into hotel room or tent, etc. Used is great.
If you can't afford that stuff, can you afford a long trip?
I've got the same setup MexiRider has. Works great. I have a T-bags bag with a roll bag on top. I got it at the dealer for $150 I think. Could have gotten it cheaper but was in a pinch and needed something quick.
went thru the same thing. I found a 4 point and a used rack on ebay for around 200. you might consider a 50 liter backpack for your bag. can find those cheap on ebay as well. do a search on backpack packing. you wouldnt believe what you can pack in those things. the rack will hold with that setup no problem. good luck.
I went through the same decisions and ended up putting on the 4pt docking. Could not find anything that mounted to the sissy bar. Decided I need the rear rack in order to carry the luggage bag. Went with the AirWing rack w/ led light by HD.
I would love it if HD made something like that for '09 and later bikes. I have been looking for a rack that attaches to the sissybar too. Can't stand the look of the 4 point hardware, and presently I have the Fat Baggers 2 point and they don't have a 4 point system so I'd have to change everything. If someone fabricates something make one for me too.
Exactly that! But, as state below, that won't work as my bike is a 2011.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Way to bring me right back down to earth... haha

I can afford the trip. It's not so much that we can't afford it, it's convincing the boss that I NEED it. Haha
I've pretty much conceded that I will need the 4 point docking hardware, rack, and bag. I'm feeling the air wing rack. I also like the size of the Kuryakyn Ultratour pack. On Ebay, they're about $110.

Yeah, I'm feeling the Air Wing moreso than the regular one. But the price is a bit more, but the looks compensate for that IMO.

Harley's way of making us pay for the 4 point and all that jazz, eh?
