If I just remove the cat from my stock header pipe and use something like Rush slipons. will it give the deep sound like an after market header pipe will do. If so that would save me a ton of money.
I just did the same.Went with the Big Louie and 1.75" baffle. Not much louder at idle but definate growl when you open the throttle. Big difference when I go through tunnels and underpasses but you need a stage 1 and tuner to give it more power.
Flashracer, thats what I'm doing now is removing the cat from my header pipe and I will be running the rush slipons with 2 1/2 baffles. I'm not looking for more power just louder pipes and cooler exhaust without having to spend so much for a whole new exhaust system. I have been running the rush slipons with my stock header pipe with the cat and its not much louder than when I was running the stock exhaust pipes that came on my 2012 street glide.
Love my new RKC 2011.
Two things I would like to change is the cat. and the bars.
I'm thinking about getting American Custom headers and leaving the stock mufflers. Has anyone done this? Any input would be appreciated!!!
I think you'll love it. I liked my stock pipes when I cranked the throttle, but it was too quiet for me when cruising. So I got their Bomber slip-on mufflers and kept my stock head pipe. The cat tones them down just a bit, but not much. I'm thinking about getting their head pipes now. Can't beat the price, and the bike will look completely stock.
I just upgraded to the fuelmoto 2:1 head pipe in my 2010 to get rid of the cat. I had to really turn over stones to find one, since they discontinued it, but I'm really happy with the results.
I was going with the FM header. Anyone know why they stopped selling this? Went to their site and sure enough could not find them.
I have a lazer temp gun and also a passenger with a seat-of-the-pants testimony that the Cat holds a LOT of heat !
Mostly I aggree: From experiance I can tell you the cat uses heat to do its job. The more fuel into exhaust the harder it works and the hotter it runs. Bottom line, cats produce heat to work and do have a slight restrictive effect and do muffle sound out the tailpipes. If you de-cat it will be cooler, it will be louder and it will have a slight less restriction. This is all "seat of my pants" experianced on my Heritage. Dont ask me a bunch of temps, thermocouple, muffler bearing, ecm, turboclutched testing formats to support my 3 findings. My *** has never let me down in 59 years.

The Rush 2" baffles will run best in your future set up. The 2.5's will have too little back presure and torque loss. When broke in 2.5's will get quite loud.
Not aware they stopped selling the header. Hope not. I plan on purchasing the package deal in February. Send e-mail for price quote.
They stopped making the 2010 OEM 2:1 replacement, supposed to release a new 2:1 complete system in February. It will have a larger colector and outlet that should actually promote better performance.
