My dealer recommends changing the brake fluid and spark plugs at the 10K service and every 10K there after. My previous bikes were metric sport touring bikes and I never changed the brake fluid and plugs at 10K. Looking for comments.
I have 20 k on my sg i pulled the plugs at 10 k they looked good.still look good at 20k ill prob change them in the spring.never heard of a brake flush at 10 k
The service manual states the spark plugs should be changed every 20000 miles, and brake fluid should be checked every 5000 miles. The manual says nothing about replacing the brake fluid every 10000 miles. That said, I change mine every two years.
I change brake fluid with every pad change, while never having to bleed the lines. I bleed some off and keep replacing the MC as I bleed them, gets most of the old fluid out. I do a total strip and clean of all brake components at 50K(or sooner if required). I don't even look at the plugs until I get 10K and replace at 20K. You will find everyone does it different for different reasons.

How many miles you get on your pads depends on many things. What brand pads, weight of bike loaded, how you brake and how often you brake. Someone in a lot of stop and go traffic everyday will go through pads quicker. I live in a rural area and tour a lot but, generally (sometimes 3 years) I replace pads every other year depending on mileage.

It was a common practice for HDs in the past to do a complete change during the 10k services including tires. Changing brake fluid or plugs at 10k is discretionary and it is after all your bike. I was going to change the brake fluid at 10 and thinking of changing plugs once a year, it is my bike after all and not a big deal doing either chore.
