Default Black powdercoat vs stock?

I was thinking about changing the forks on my bike from chrome to black. (again) I saw some uppers and lowers on ebay that are powdercoated. I want to say the lowers were around $140 range.

Am I better off spending the money on stock black parts vs powdercoated parts? Are any other places I could look? Opinions would be great.

Thanks
Eric

I just did the black kit from HD. The sweet thing is after I had them installed they mentioned they have a company locally they go to for paint and powdercoat (the exact opposite of what they told me 4 months ago).

Knowing then what I know now, I would have just had my stock powdercoated. Much less expensive.

The kicker is AFTER they did my forks (with HD parts), audio, and apes that they mentioned this and said "ha, you should have had your inner fairing painted at THAT time, now we gotta take it all back apart". No **** Sherlock......

Since it's winter where you're at,take your uppers and lowers and have them done, same work just have to wait for your parts to be done, and no take offs laying around your garage !

My bike is at a dealer for winter storage. If you spend $500 bucks the storage is free. (save $300) I don't think the dealer would allow the bike to jsut sit there while the parts are powder coated. And I have chrome on there now so I am not sure I would want to powdercoat them.

Default Powder Coat

Unless you are doing some kind of air-brush custom paint job powder coat is always the best bet (IMHO). It doesn't have the same issues with oxidizing, fading, chipping/scratching that other coatings (paint) has. It is basically melted polyester and very durable. I think the ideal coating for the V-Rod.

I have seen metal tubing finished in powder coat and then bent into shape afterward -- you can't do that with regular paint.

I think I will go with the powder coat. I just need to find a deal on some used parts
