I created a route with the HD planner and saved it as a .gpx, then opened it in mapsource and the route was all jacked up, more of a point to point route rather than the exact route I mapped.

My mapsource is updated with 2012 maps.
Did I miss a step somewhere?
In MapSource click the route and have it recalculated....
HD Ride Planner - great if you want to just get from point a to point b but don't expect it to download into your zumo seamlessly.
MS Streets and Trips - Great planning software including stop times, etc. and does a nice job of map printing. Routes need to be recreated though for Garmin use.
Mapsource - clunky user interface but as stated before, once you get the hang of it, very powerful. I use it for most everything including week+ long trips both in the states and in Canada.
I posted about the latest update for the TomTom iPhone app, it allows you to choose "winding roads" as a planning option. It goes further than that by offering 3 levels of winding road as well (level 1 will avoid motorways but still use them for short sections if the alternative is crazy)
I have been very impressed with how well this works

The secret to ride planner is to use WAYPOINTS..... lots of them. Make a waypoint for every major turn. If you don't, the GPS will try to route you the way it wants you to go, and not the way YOU want to go.
Why would you use ride planner, and then load your maps into mapsource? Ride planner uses maps from Google. So they are constantly updated.
I did a 3500 mile ride last year, all plotted with ride planner, and never missed a single turn.
I've never had/used gps but did just buy a nuvi thinking I could plan routes for the trip I'm planning. It seems I can only use one via point and one destination? I admit to being an idiot with these things but I'm ready to return the thing. May keep it for the truck/car because it was cheap, but useless on the bike as far as I can figure out.
