That usually happens if you update the maps in your Zumo & then use stored routes. I keep several favorite routes stored in mine, & have to recreate them after each map update. A little time consuming, but not a big problem.

I don't have a GPS for the bike yet but one for the cage and it works great. For the last 8+ years. Maybe one screw up in that time. I plan my route on Google, double check route, use the photos to have an idea of what it will look like when I get there, print off copies just in case and then enter addresses into GPS. I arrive at one destination, site see etc and then find the next pre entered destination and start the trike. I don't understand why people load routes in to GPS.

I love my Garmin 665 and have had no issues at all with mine or the software. Is yours all up to date and has it got all the map updates?

I use mine when I do my annual trip with a bunch of other riders. We decide the night before where we're going and I do a route. They don't want to be sitting around during the day waiting for me to do that. WE don't generally do major roads that are shown on maps, we do a lot of secondary and county roads. If for some reason we deviate, having the route pre-entered makes it easy to get back on track and keep going without having to stop and look **** up again.

Last summer the wife and I did a 2800 mile trip. I plotted the whole thing using the HD ride planner as one big loop with wayponts. My Zumo 660 never missed a single turn for the whole trip. And never touched an Interstate highway.

The secret is to use LOTS of waypoints. For example, I have a route from my town to Rapid City SD, 854 miles and it has 27 waypoints. The route has only 6 roads total. The waypoints prevent the GPS from taking you where it wants, and just uses your route.

"We don't generally do major roads that are shown on maps, we do a lot of secondary and county roads" Yes I missed the obvious. It will take you shortest/fastest via highways forgot about that.

Because we want to travel the "scenic" route, not the shortest or fastest.

FYI.

Here is a way to install Mapsource if it did not come with your GPS.

Sorry, in advance, if this a duplicate post... I did not read all the posts in this thread.

Depends very much on how far you are travelling. I have planned routes across Europe of almost 3k miles, with overnight stops at pre-booked hotels and places of interest along the way. All the route planning work is done well before we set off, not on the hoof. If you have had the experience of finding a destination in a town with an unpronouncable name in a distant country (Eastern Europe is wonderful) that speaks little English, you will start planning ahead!
