HD offers two kits for intercom: 77157-09 and 77158-09. The latter will also support CB if you add that now or later. The former won't support CB w/o a fair amount of DIY wiring. The latter also uses an additional harness; the non-Ultra overlay harness, p/n 70169-06A.

The installation instructions for both kits are on HD's website.

A virtue of using these kits is that the passenger headset connector and PTT/vol. switch remain on the bike when the tour pak is removed. That also means that you don't need HD's speaker pods with the passenger switches/connector so the intercom can be used w/o the tour pak on the bike. You can also use aftermarket pods/speakers, e.g. Hogtunes, Eglidegoodies, etc.

Spend some time at HD's website or with the paper P&A catalog.

I wanted the SG but knew I'd want to add the TP at some point so I waited till I found a great deal on a used one where the previous owner already added the removable TP. I know this doesn't help you but know you're not the only one. FWIW, especially in the winter, I leave the TP on just for ease of storage. Then, once the weather breaks, I take it off and have it only for trips with the wifey. She absolutely LOVES it for trips! Got the matching Mustang wraparound armrest and she can go for 500 miles a day easily now. Speaker pods are in the plans for a future mod. Just don't have the coin right now. Bottom line, if ya have the money, you'll be happy with the "different" bikes you can ride. I have 3... naked, backrest and tourpak. :-)

... also gives you yet another excuse for a quick ride, to go to the grocery store and actually be able to bring home some groceries... LOL

trigger is pulled....got the TP and the rest of the stuff....in $1200 (only money like an earlier comment)...and agree with the comments...have a bad-*** SG...and can add/quick detach the TP...best of both worlds! Held off on the rear speakers...wife usually riding with the IPOD (which someone mentioned...thx)...and thinking if going to modify the stereo...need to do it the right way...what i did not think about was the antenna..either the shorter one...or somehow move...feel pretty damn sure HD will have something that I can buy!!!
thx to all for the input

I think many have been where you are. Just bite the bullet. We all do sooner or later. Good Luck.

I got the in-fairing antennae. Doesn't seem to have quite the same reception but I listen to XM most of the time anyway...

I bought the SG on purpose with intentions of spending more money on the extras to make it a grandpa glide. I wanted two bikes...one for short trips and buzzin around town, the other for long hauls.

I bought a 10" clear windshield for the long trips. I add the 12v plug in for phone etc. inside the TP - Make sure they wire it so that the plug is on the out side under the seat so you don't have to fish the wires with connector and grommet back into the hole everytime you install and remove the TP. Added antenna relocate kit for under the fairing - If you are in a rural area with some distance between major cities don't waste your money - FM Reception sucks with this kit - burn Mp3 cd's - you can get about a 140 songs - I added 5.25 Focal speakers to fit into the stock brackets and an amp - BIG difference - If I was to do it again I would have bought the adapters and put the 6.5" in instead. Enjoy both bikes - Cheers

you did good , I've had the Ultra .. been ther done that ... and even when you remove the tourpaK and put on a shorter windshield, it still looks like an Ultra without a tourpak and a short winshield on it ... Nothing like the stripped down custom look of the street glide.... I sold my Ultra and bought a Street Glide and have since bout a custom Road Glide .. I always add the tourpak and Sundowner seat like others above have said , then pop em off when the wifey aint goin... oh and the other thing , when you take that expensive tourpak off , you need one of these to keep it up outa the way , and outa harm ... and all your other goodies organized and together ... good luck ...

You are definetly not alone. I added the sundowner seat when the wife went on longer trips then purchased the Tour Pak. Got a set of used lowers I now run in the winter. Bought a badlander seat for solo riding. Now the ideal setup(s) for any situation....badlander for solo rides, stock seat with detachable backrest for local 2 -up rides and tourpak and sundowner seat for the long hauls with wifey. Just completed adding the tourpak speakers last week so I now have it all !!!! LOL No regrets at all as I am height impaired so the SG fits the bill better than stripping down an Ultra. One of the strange things I found out was the wife preferred the stock seat with the backrest because she claimed the sundowner made her slide forward away from the backrest.

I love the clean low look of the Street glide, there is no way I would trade for rear speakers so the wife is happy. My wife has me keep the stock radio with boom speakers turned down to less than half volume as it is. We are more than happy with our bike!
