Have to do a engine rebuild for my power sports tech class. I have chosen to do my 2009 96ci FLHX. My question is what is the biggest that I can go to without having to by the complete motor outright?

I could use some advice on the intake, to compliment the engine once rebuilt. Please offer any advice on "Forced air" too. ie supercharger, turbo, etc..

I will have the motor apart, so why put it back together OEM? I like the idea of the 120ci and the 131ci, but not much is know about these engine's.

Thanks.

I have the "Tailgunner" Rotary Cannon exhaust with straight duels, K&N, and Harley custom Fuel Map.

As far as I know... and this is NOT to be taken as fact...

I believe the 96, without any other modifications to the crank case area can be taken up to the 110.

But don't quote me on that... haha

if it were me I would keep it a 96" or just go up to 103" and build it right for a turbo setup. very nice ride feels great around town, twist the throttle and hold on tight 145hp on a built right turbo setup is not uncommon. and they are cool looking. haha

Trask, is one of them. when I bought my road glide I was talking to the head mechanic about motor upgrades, he had a 2010 road glide with a turbo setup. it was a 96" with 130hp and 110tq. I road it and it felt like a normal 96" till I cracked the throttle open. I thought it was going to pull my arms off getting on the interstate. I don't think it's as fast as a 120" but a 103" with a turbo would be. Honestly if you have questions I would call Black Hills Harley Davidson in Rapid City, SD and ask to talk to the turbo bike machanic. (trust me they will know who to give the phone to) he is super nice and I think he just likes explaining his bike to people.

Or you could call Trask and they will help you out.

That all being said it cost allot of coin to build a motor, if your in school that might be an issue, have fun with it and let us all know what you decide to do.

if you have the motor all the way down send the crank off and get it stitched and balanced.
