Yeah, It made me nervous even with a Dyna on it! I always raised the bike then blocked under the rear tire with Cinder Blocks and a 2x. I Want to buy a J&S but with my little mishap, I have a ton of cash going out the door at the moment. New front fender, repainted front fairing, plus before this happened I had just sunk money into a new exhaust and some other things I designed and had custom made. $$$$$$
I may remove the old damaged front fender without pulling the wheel and calipers and see how it feels? If it goes well and I'm comfortable with it, I'll install the new fender in reverse. If however, it just doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy, the wheel will have to come off. I hate half assin things. Plenty of feed back says many have removed the front fender no fuss no muss without pulling the wheel and calipers. Guess I'll see!

Damn, nice score. The Pitbull guys are great too. I needed a new spring for the foot lever and called them. They sent me out 2 of them for free. I saw them in Sturgis and ask them if I could be new rubber strips that go on the top rails. He gave me a set for free.
Definitely not sturdy enough to do what the Pitbull guys can do on it but it "works" fine. I have the Pitbull also and the Craftsman jack just sits. It worked fine for what I needed, I ride all year so no "storage" needed, just a pain to get it up on 2x4s when I needed to use it since it wouldn't fit under the SG. I also used a ratchet strap to hold it when I did my tear-down since it did wobble a bit once I started removing wheels. If it wasn't so much to ship I'd sell it since I don't use it anymore. Anyone local is welcome to come pick it up for a 12 pack of Honey Brown. :-)
I googled sears motorcycle lift jack and the red one they show now claims a 1500 pound capacity. If yours is the same, that is plenty. Except for the color, it looks identical to my Harbor Freight yellow lift which has done everything I have asked for over 3 years with a Road King somewhere between 800 and 900 pounds.
I used the red craftsman jack for awhile and might have been cuz my shed was not heated but if they blow the seal in the jack you throw the whole thing in the trash cuz you cannot replace the seal, do a search on the jack and the seal.. Get the yellow jack heard it was far better..I know cuz mine blew the seal..
You are right that you can't replace the seal on the pump but when mine went I called the 800 number and they sent a new pump out. Mines 8 years old and had numerous bikes on it including a Yamaha Venture and an Ultra Classic. I don't let it stay up on the pump, I keep it on the locks when up, but have never had a problem with working on a bike while it was on the lift.
After you lift the bike you are suppose to use tie downs to secure it. If you don't you are asking for trouble. There are tie points on the jack. Red Craftsman jack has worked fine for me for several years, no issues at all.
My bike sits on the lift all winter long in my garage. I feel comfortable moving it around as long as the bike is tied down. Would not trust it to remove a tire unless it was blocked and then some.
No doubt the Pitbull and J&S are nice jacks. I have a Pitbull now, but my first jack was a yellow HF. I changed Tires and did everything on it with my 08 Ultra Classic. I'd always block up the end I wasn't working on. Here's a pic of my 2010 RK sitting on my PitBull. Nice Jack!
