why not ride side by side, especially if you know the guy you are riding with?
Because the "safety police" are watching you and their way is the only right way, because they are always right and they know what is best for all other individuals. If you violate their rules, they will tell you how wrong you are, so it is best to avoid this by just going along and conforming, it will save you a lot of ........ well, hell, it really don't matter, just don't read what they write. YEP! Been cooped up way too long in the snow and cold, need to ride and getting real testy!

Reason: Misspelled word, worried about spelling police
I grew up in SoCal and have witnessed lane splitting. It was at least once a week that you'd see a rider down on the local news. The way these guys ride is nuts. And dont even start with its the cages fault. When you are riding between cars in traffic traveling 20-30 miles an hour faster than the flow, its "YOUR" fault when someone doesnt see you and changes lanes in front of you. As far as sharing a lane side by side, thats stupid as well. If you need to take evasive action for whatever reason...doesnt even have to be a stupid cager, can be something blowing onto the roadway etc...you've got nowhere to go when you have someone beside you. So lets here it from all the "I have excellent riding skills" guys who can split lanes safely haha. Its just stupid to put yourself in a position to have an accident that you can blame on the cager. Truth of the matter is that if you werent lane splitting, there wouldnt have been an accident. Just sayin
lots of people think you're "stupid" just for riding a motorcycle. i always think it's a shame when one motorcyclist judges another for what they perceive is stupid.... just sayin.....

Perfectly said, I have friends who think reading an online forum is stupid, just sayin' also ....... but I'm 56, been riding 38 years, I quit caring what people think a long, long time ago, life's better that way.
I don't care who does or doesn't do it, and how long you've ridden together makes no difference either. Seeing law enforcement officers do it doesn't make it right or safe either. You have no avenue of escape when riding side by side. Any interuption in flow of traffic which would cause one or the other of you to swerve can be a recipe for disaster. I will not ride side by side and am concerned for those who do and to top it off if anyone should know better it's a law enforcement officer. Don't care how long you and your partner have ridden together neither one of know exactly how the other will respond at all times.
You are right on with your comment. No one who cares anything about safe riding would think about riding side-by-side. Of course there are those who ride in T-shirts and shorts and without helmets. To each his own as long as no one else is endangered.
I agree and disagree with several laws in regards to motorcycles...my belief is if you're the only one that will be affected by your stupidity, go ahead!...otherwise follow the law and/or just remember, he who has the most wheels wins.
The buddies I ride abreast with are all former motor cops. We only do it when traffic is light and it's safe to do so. It's fun to do but you have to KNOW your partner and be confident in his skills.
