Just wondering, in the process of re-assy. after the new paint on the SG, I replaced the inner fairing rubber gasket , has any one ever done the gasket around the edge of the outer fairing?
You should make sure both of these gaskets are in place. There is lots of stuff under that faring that does not tolerate water very well. If your gaskets are not in place, there is a good chance that water will get in via rain or washing, and then you could see some short term as well as long term, slow to occur damage.
Besides, you don't want the surface of the outer faring rubbing the surface of the inner faring without some kind of medium in between. That will lead to squeaking without the cushioning effect of the gasket on both sides. The faring paint and possibly the faring itself, where the two jammed surfaces meet, could become damaged.
