skully I would use the flange or the gasket maker and would not use the high heat stuff.

also use caution on to much gasket sealer.. if some geting the cam chest,, it could come lose & end up in the pump or cam plate.. which can cause a blockage.. the piston/plunger in the cam plate wont take much to clog it...

Very good point. A very thin film of sealer would do it, just enough to fill the gap. Hylomar (e.g. Permatex) would be a good choice if you can find it, as it doesn't harden and is very durable.

Everyone makes errors like that from time to time. Good news is it's fixable and not catastrophic. Good luck.

If it were me, I would run a stone across it and carefully knock down any high spots, you will know if it is cutting material. Then fill in any low spots with a very thin gasket sealant as mentioned a long with the gasket.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking I'll do. Could you clarify exactly what type of stone?

an abrasive die stone would work great, maybe 320 grit. otherwise a standard knife sharpening stone would do. just a few sweeps across the most mass on the flat should do thru trick.
