Default Another HD Smart Security Question...

Awhile ago I was told by a dealer that HD doesn't have a Smart Security system available for my year bike (2000 RKC) and no-one knew why. I recently posted about wanting to buy a Scorpio Alarm when a member told me HD does in fact have a smart system for my bike and he gave me the PN.

I looked up all the parts I would need for a system that would be comparable to the scorpio i900 (paging system) and the HD unit is about $80 more just for the unit and from what I understand, the dealer has to be involved to "marry" the fobs and pager or some sh#t - I am only guessing, but I bet I won't get by with less then a $200 charge from the dealer? if so, that brings the HD system up to nearly $300 more then the Scorpio.

So, the question is - is the HD system worth paying the extra price or not? (I do like the idea of being able to set a code to disable the alarm if need be - a feature I don't believe the Scorpio has). Also, should I worry that althouf=gh "new in box", some of the parts I need are 8 years old (from the pics on the box) where as the scorpio is a new product.

The part number he gave you was for a manual security system.... not the smart security system. The smart system arms itself, and the manual system you have to push the fob button to arm.

The smart system disarms itself when you get close to the bike with the fob. The manual system has to be disarmed by pushing the fob button twice.

The smart system is the newer of the two.

I'm not positive, but I think the Scorpio system requires extra parts if you want the starter disable feature. But on the plus side, it is hands free like the smart system..... and it has a siren built in.

With your bike, I would go with an after-market alarm system.
Some even have the vibration sensor, such as Bull Dogs alarm, and it is a lot less money.

Thanks, I didn't notice - I guess I don't mind having to manually arm/dis-arm. I think I would still be able to add the smart siren II....any idea? Hoping to have the pager option.

For the scorpio the ignition disable (as well as a perimeter sensor) are add- ons - but I did do the price comparison with the scorpio's ig. dis.

I have a scorpio on my sports bike, great alarm - easy install and works well. I went the full box and dice with all sensors etc and it was still very affordable for a high quality system.

I gave him that part # as it is the only one that HD made for the older RK's. There simply is no self arming HD security system for the older bikes. It is no big deal to push the fob button anyway.
