Hey everyone - Long time reader, first time poster.
Back in 12/2011 I had the Stage II 103" Big bore kit installed w/255 cams on my '09 Ultra Classic Electraglide and while perusing Harley's site I found a Stage 4 kit and naturally got pissed as it promises 100 hp and around 110 max torque. My dyno after my conversion and tune puts me at 87.76 max HP around 5000 rpm and 107.21 Max Torque around 3500 rpm if I am reading it correctly. Is it worth piddling over the stage 4 kit over 13 hp and like 3 torque? Again I am new to this so please take it easy on me. I have a Stage 1 air cleaner (couldn't do the heavy breather because of lowers) and I have VH 2/2 Big Radius pipes. SERT installed naturally.
Please advise.
Part # for kit was 29893-07B and Air Cleaner 29260-08
Stage 4 Kit says it fits '10 later models with 103" but wasn't sure if it would fit my upgraded 96 anyway..

My first recommendation would be a good 2-1 pipe. Then have it retuned. You may be surprised and get what you're looking for. If you're still chasing numbers after that I'd look at some minor headwork.
The Stage IV kit will work but you already have the 103" top end so the heads, throttle body, 254e cams and the tuner are the pieces you need; not the complete kit. The heads are available on an exchange basis for $650; the cams for $255, throttle body for $460 and the tuner for $430; cheaper if purchased from a discount dealer. About $1800 at retail and maybe $1500 from a discount dealer. You will have to decide if the gain is worth the additional cost. A .030" head gasket will help get the compression right.
A 30T trans pulley, better exhaust and tune might get you what you want but the 255 cams play out above 4000rpms. If you don't ride there, no need for more.
I can't see spending 1500 for such a small hp/torque increase I guess. I know the 2-1 pipe would be better but I just like the 2-2 BR pipe look on the baggers. I think they did a great job on the tune personally. Just kinda pissed dealer didn't say anything about the state 4 kit... I usually ride in the 3-3.5K range and there was a definite notice of power increase over the 96" engine with just the stage 2 kit and cams - sti have issues shifting as I am not used to the power lol, thing is like a bullet now w/the tour pak off. I can keep up with my brother on his '10 96" dyna and he weighs 100 lb less than me and his bike weighs a lot less. I am thinking the 1500 is better spent on yaffe bars and the iPod adapter. The full kit is lil $1800 on Harley's site... A lot of dealers have winter deals, mine does 20% off but I should probably just think on it for a year.
