I'm not superstitious and it might just be me, but if someone who knows the story gave one to me, I would assume it would be a "slap to their face" not to install it. Because I have no desire to offend someone who would give me that gift in good faith, I hope it never happens. I don't have one now, never have had one. If I crash, tip over, slide on spilled oil or whatever, it is all part of the 2 wheel experience. I consciously and freely accept the risk and possible consequences without any need or desire for good luck charms.

Yes! The guy who gave me my bell, turned in front of me and broke my pelvis and hip. I lived.

Mine was given to me by a long term friend from Texas. I figure that Lone Star will ride with me until I get to Texas and thank him. My first bell was given to me years ago by a friend at a rally in Montana. When I sold that bike, it was the only thing I took off. It was an inexpensive 3rd world brass bell, but I decided to do what cheap labor would not do. I ground.filed it into symmetry, polished out the odd stampings, oxidized the brass black then painted it black. It now rides on my sporty. Of all my travels, I have never noticed nor had anyone noticed a bell on a bike. I do not believe they do anything beyond representing the best wishes of a friend and for that reason, I allow them on my bike.

Besides, the evil fairies that are supposed to hear the bell and stay off my bike could NEVER hear it over my pipes.

Santa personally gave me mine when I went to see him at the mall last year.....
My wife got hers from the Easter Bunny - I didn't realize the Easter Bunny could talk!!!! That Bunny told some really funny stories about partying with the Tooth Fairy.
