Well nobody can see the swirls when you're riding down the road, so if you bought it to ride...... (yes mine is black and I am trying hard to adopt this attitude. I like a "show bike" shine, but it's hard to keep it that way if you ride it)
P.S. for us OCD types, denim is probably the way to go!!
I always use a microfiber cloth, carnuba based wax, and avoided any shammy usage. Once the swirles are in the clear coat, you can have them professionally "buffed", but the finish will never be the same. A bike in black is a awsome color to go with, but it's high maintence. Good luck.
What ???? Totally untrue. You don't have to be a professional and I have no idea what you mean by "the finish will never be the same." If it's done correctly it will actually be way better than before.
To the OP. As stated, black is very high maintenance. You can introduce swirls, especially in Harley clear, very easily. The most common way is your wash and dry technique. Even if you're extremely careful it's hard not to get swirls in the tank area. Something you definitely need to think about when buying black.
I use a California duster to get light dust / dirt off. After a wash I use S-100 detail and wax. It seems to be working great and igves the bike that wet look, but I haven't had the bike that long, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
