Fairing Re-install Issues
I have two bolts that refuse to screw back into the outer fairing. How can I repair or replace the outer fairing nuts? Thought I read a while back about a kit to fix this, but can't find it now. Thanks.
will they just not tighten or won't fit? There are inserts on the inner fairing these thread into - hopefully you didn't strip them. I cannot remember if all the fairing screws are the same size or not?? Is it possible you mixed up the 3 for the windshield with the ones on the inside?
You can get new one's at any local dealer, I know my dealer has them on hand as I think it happens quite often. Beofre doing that remove the other screws from the inside and compare them to see if there is a difference, that may be all there is to it. Seems odd that they would strip that easy....
If brass inserts are loose and spinning you can get new ones from the dealer or use some Gorilla Glue and glue them back in. You don't need much because it expands. Part of my plastic had a crack and I used a plastic wire tie for that. All is good now and hopefully will never have to mess with it again.

I have had the fairing off multiple times, but the last time I had issues.
The replacement threaded inserts to replace fairing brass inserts that have spun are H-D part #16585-96, couple bucks each. The button head screws are H-D part #2446, less than a buck each. Good to have spare screws for when one goes missing, the left lower screw can be a little tricky to re-insert!
I think to remove the OEM brass inserts you'll need to put a screw into it and grab the screw with a pair of grips to pull out the insert, just like pulling teeth!

Yep, the original are knurled and are like a press fit, the replacements thread in tightly. I replaced all three of my windshield inserts. Cheapest thing you'll ever be able to buy at a dealer.
