This question goes out to all that are more knowledgable than i in the audio world. about 2 yrs ago i purchased and installed hog-tunes speakers ffor my 06 street glide for the first year they sounded great compared to stock speakers and then my wife and i took a trip to savannah ga from western mass and the sound slowly deteriorated to the point where they sound blown. Now like i said im not very knowledgable about audio so by blown i meanthey start out ok and then slowly anything over one third volume they begin to flutter so im looking for some help deciding where to go from here. Any and all input/advice would be greatly appreciated and just keep in mind i have no lowers to add speakers to and not interested in adding any to saddlebags. once again thank you for any help.
I was told at one point that under powering speakers that were rated for higher wattage would burn out the voice coils over time. This would make the speaker act like it was blown, when it fact it was burnt up from the inside.
Just what I was always told anyway.
Maybe they were always just trying to sell me amps...
No amp didn't know that i might need one , that is until i started reading about it here on the forum. The being burnt up is what i was afraid of. Thought i might be needing to replace them and am looking for advice on what to replace with so that my wife might be able to make out what song is playing.
Just installed a set of boom audio speakers over the winter. They have a two year warranty and have been cranking them since the install, so far they are pretty good.
thanks to those that have responded. i am going to call Pez to see what he suggests , anybody having any other suggestions feel free to help a brother out. really want to get this figured out as to what will give me decent bquallity sound without goingb overboard on budget.
I've tried the Hogtunes and J&M speakers. I landed with the Biketronics Hertz speakers with a Sony HU. Add an amp and you will get even better sound. The Hertz speakers are loud but music has way more warmth; something that my ears didn't pick up with the previous two. There are lots of threads here about audio systems, but you will find the arguments about which brand are like arguing religion and politics.
