Hello, wondering if anyone has tackled installing on of these in a regular SG? It's a ton of cash, looks like about $2k without labor. I'd really like to give it a go, but would like some feed back if anyone has done it.
There's at least one guy on the forum who installed the HD Custom Touring kit--replicates the system of the 2012 CVO SG. Hopefully he'll chime in.
Personally, I believe the HD audio stuff is, for the most part, over-priced.
I'm running 6.5" speakers in the fairing (HD's are 5.25"), 6.5" speakers in the fairing lowers (as are HD's), and Rockford Fosgate 6x8's in the HD saddlebag speaker lids (HD's are 5x7), as well as adding speakers to the Ultra tour pak that is seldom on the bike--though that may change if I really like the sound. LOL. Just got the saddlebag lids back from paint and hope to complete installation this week-end.
Suggestion: Hybrid Audio Technologies is currently designing and will manufacture a "drop in" 5x7 speaker for the HD saddlebag lids--HD uses a unique mounting hole pattern so any aftermarket 5x7 or 6x8 will need modifications of the lids to accommodate--so wait a month or so for the HAT speakers which will be available in 2 and 4 ohm versions.
The HD system you are considering is 1 ohm impedance. So you won't be able to swap out the speakers or the amps if you decide to upgrade either the speakers or the amps since there are virtually no aftermarket products that support 1 ohm systems.
I agree with Carl. Over priced system. You can get a lot more sound for less money by doing something using the aftermarket. Lots of options out there.
