I want to add volume controls to my 08 FLSTC. Anyone know what model I can look at for lower hand controls for volume and mode? It would have to be a model with cable throttle and dead-man's cruise (the little thumb screw).
I have been ready to pull the trigger on a Reckless 3x in the last week but keep coming back to the Dragonfly for some reason....By far the Dragonfly is the best made structurally....and the internal speaker mount have a nice clean look.
Curious to hear your opinion when it comes in...
I have seen a Reckless in person. It didn't look quite as good as the Dragonfly. However, I have only seen the dragonfly on their website and on a few YouTube install videos.
Yep. I met a guy last week who installed a Reckless fairing, Sony head unit, and a SWI-PS interface. He had changed out his hand controls so that he had volume and mode (channel/track/etc) controls. He made a resistor block, which he wired between the SWI-PS and the factory hand controls. Then the SWI-PS plugs into the back of the Sony deck. The SWI-PS is mounted in the fairing, while the resistor block is mounted on the bike. This way, he only has four wires between the bike and the fairing (Power, Ground, Switched Power, and Hand Control Output). He used a four wire disconnect to keep the fairing removable. It is simply a matter of programming the SWI-PS to the functions on the hand controls.
I would like to replicate this, but I have no idea what hand controls will work, if any.
Got my reckless yesterday....seems like a decent unit, of course I dont have anything to compare it to....fit seems decent, not crazy about the "unfinished " edge where the 2 halves meet but I guess I can dress that up with some door edging.
Gelcoat finish is suprisingly very good...Im gonna paint it but you could easily wax it up and throw it on. Not really thrilled with the "Reckless" emblem riveted to the face of the fairing right next to the radio but for $500 less than the DF I can live with it...in fact I will prolly drill it out and have my paint guy patch the holes. I must have looked at 2000 pics of the fairing before I bought it and never saw a badge....oh well.
Real easy to overlook any small imperfections on this unit for the price....I didnt really care about cost on this , just wanted a decent product and didnt want to wait a month. I know the Dragonfly has a superior internal structure but I figured if all the other top fairing makers used basically the same system, the reckless should be ok.
I have 14 business days to give it the once over so if Im not happy....it goes back.
I will start a reckless thread...in detail.....didnt mean to steal PK's thread lol..
Wolfman...which does your friend have a reckless or Dragonfly??
